Press Release Summary: Hilwood Resorts & Hotels uses Exterity decoders and encoders to stream TV Video & Music to 136 bedrooms
Press Release Body: London, 04 August, 2008: Exterity, the market leading provider of building IPTV networks, has deployed its IPTV encoder and decoder technology with Hotel Broadband at the Grand Hotel Jersey in the Channel Islands. The solution, which replaces an analogue system, will supply the hotel's bedrooms, suites and conference facilities with TV Video & Music on Demand, and comes as part of a multi-million pound refurbishment programme. The system will be rolled out to the other hotels in the Hilwood Resorts Group over the next 12 months.
The Exterity IPTV solution was deployed onto the hotel's new data cabling network and streams music and TV including: terrestrial, Freeview and Sky channels. All TV and radio channels are supplied from a single satellite dish. Installation in the bedroom was simplified by powering the Exterity receivers on the same cable providing the IPTV feed removing additional power needs and allowing complete remote support.
Exterity in conjunction with Hotel Broadband's extensive hospitality expertise enabled guests to control both the in-room television and the IPTV solution from a single remote control, simplifying the guest experience and allowing the Grand Hotel to retain the 37" LCD screens that were already in place in half of the bedrooms. Remaining bedrooms were installed with new 42" Philips hospitality TVs. The web based guest interface is customised to the branding requirements of the hotel and provides easy to use functionality including access to the latest films and music available on demand to the guest free of charge.
Colin Farquharson, Group Property Manager, Hilwood Resorts & Hotels, says, "In keeping with its transformation into a luxury destination resort hotel with an exciting and innovative look and feel, combining striking architecture with a contemporary design, the hotel needed to offer the comprehensive in-room entertainment system that guests expect from this calibre of hotel. The Exterity system backed by Hotel Broadband's hospitality focus provided the ideal solution, being both versatile and cost-effective. In combination with the latest video and music on demand technology we felt that our guests should have access to this free of charge."
The system was installed by and is supported remotely by the guest entertainment system supplier Hotel Broadband, meaning that the Grand Hotel Jersey does not need to devote time to maintenance of the system, which can be repaired, updated and restarted without any input from the hotel itself. James Richmond, Sales Director at Hotel Broadband explains: "The fact that the IPTV system can be managed remotely is a great bonus for hotels, as they do not need to worry about the day-to-day upkeep of the system, leaving them free to get on with the important task of running the hotel."
"IPTV is an excellent alternative to the traditional coax networks hotels often have. Problems with coax include signal degradation on long runs across sites, causing ghosting and break-up of selected channels and the inability to add further channels over and above the set numbers supported by RF modulator set ups." commented Colin Farquhar, Exterity CEO. "Opting for IPTV removes all of these restrictions, making our solution the ideal choice for the Grand Hotel Jersey."
